Before You Pivot
I have a client who is feeling frustrated at work. Although she is new to her job, she is not new to her career. Her frustration stems from two main issues: the role she accepted has expanded in responsibilities, which she feels is unreasonable for one person to manage, and the company culture does not support top-down changes.
She is at a crossroads: should she stay or leave? Is it too early to make this decision? Will she miss out on potential career advancement opportunities if she decides to leave now? This indecision has led to gridlock over whether she should pivot to another company.
To determine if it is time for her to move on, my client first needs to take control of her direction and gain clarity. Instead of feeling stuck and confused about her next steps, she must reposition herself in the driver's seat. Her focus should shift from feeling helpless to feeling clear and confident about her situation.
Some steps she could take include:
Presenting creative solutions to the challenges she's facing.
Communicating more proactively with her direct supervisor.
Establishing clear boundaries and testing them out.
Once she gains clarity and takes action, she will be able to decide whether she wants to continue with her company. If she decides to leave, knowing that she has been proactive will give her peace of mind.
Regardless of her choice, clarity will lead to certainty about her next best move.
